Potential issue with special characters such as è, é, à e

06 May 2009, 02:38

Hi there

I tried to use the new version X2 2.1 and there might be problems with special characters such as è, é, à  etc if these occur in the Image Description of EXIF when writing the XML of the respective folder.
Funny is that it does not seem to have any issues with Greek characters.
-> The thumbs hang on the top left corner of the browser. To me it seem that a script stops working due to an invalid character somewhere.

Please check if you have the same issues with this one [contains è, é, à ]:

With this one there seem to be no problems [contains Greek letters]:

Thanks and regards

Did you use the same software to edit descriptions? Looks like greek descriptions are in UTF-8 encoding while another image might carry some CP-1252 or Latin-1 encoding. Need to experiment abit.

I am using Adobe Bridge CS 4 to edit meta data information. Thought it is not the EXIF but the IPTC metas which are written by Bridge.

When I am done with writing the meta data such as descriptions in Bridge I use an other command line tool to copy the IPTC data to Exif.
The tool is from http://www.hugsan.com/EXIFutils/

I will check both files again to make sure that they were treated exactly the same way.

Thanks and regards for the swift reply/help
